Terms of Service

Last updated: April 2026

Acceptance

By creating an account or using the anonymous trial, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use the service.

The service – as is

ShelterMetrics is offered in beta “as is”, with no warranty of fitness for any specific purpose. Porosity figures are measurements of a photograph, not a guarantee of real-world wind reduction. Do not use our output as the sole basis for agronomic, engineering, insurance, or legal decisions - always corroborate with field measurements and a qualified professional.

Your account

  • You’re responsible for keeping your password secure and for activity on your account.
  • One account per person. No sharing or re-selling account access.
  • We can suspend or terminate accounts that appear to be abusing the service (script-driven quota abuse, attempts to probe the infrastructure, uploading content that isn’t a photograph, etc.).

Acceptable use

Don’t:

  • Upload content that is not a photograph of a shelterbelt/windbreak or similar vegetation.
  • Upload photos containing identifiable individuals without their consent.
  • Attempt to break, probe, or reverse-engineer our service, or to bypass the free-tier quota.
  • Use the service in violation of any applicable law.

Your content

You keep all rights to the photos you upload. We process them in memory only to compute the porosity analysis and do not retain the image files. We retain the numerical results, quality metrics, and metadata described in the Privacy Policy.

Pricing, billing & refunds

The Free tier is free for personal and evaluation use. The Pro tier is billed monthly (£19 / month) or annually (£152 / year) via Stripe. Prices shown are exclusive of any VAT or local sales tax that Stripe calculates automatically at checkout. Your subscription renews automatically on each anniversary until cancelled.

  • Cancellation. You can cancel from the dashboard at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; Pro access continues until then. You will not be charged again. No refunds are issued for unused time within a period already paid for.
  • 14-day right to cancel (UK/EU). Under the UK Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 (and equivalent EU rules), consumers have 14 days from first purchase to cancel and receive a full refund, provided the service has not been substantially used. To exercise this right, email hello@sheltermetrics.org within 14 days of your first payment. By starting the service before the 14-day period ends, you agree that the right to cancel ends once the service has been fully performed, which we treat as the point at which you first run a paid-tier analysis after purchase.
  • Failed payments. If a renewal charge fails, Stripe retries the card for a few days. Pro access continues during retry; if payment still fails, the account is downgraded to Free until you update your card.
  • Price changes. We’ll email existing subscribers at least 30 days before any price increase takes effect. Continued subscription after the change means acceptance of the new price; if you’d rather not, cancel before the next renewal.
  • Invoices & VAT receipts. Every payment produces a PDF invoice emailed by Stripe and accessible from the Stripe billing portal (“Manage billing” button on the dashboard). If you need the invoice addressed to a company or with a VAT number, add those in the portal.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to lost profits, lost data, or decisions made based on the analysis output. Our total liability in any 12-month period is capped at the greater of (a) the fees you paid us in that period, or (b) £50.

Termination

You can delete your account at any time from the dashboard. We can terminate accounts for breach of these terms, or to discontinue the service, with reasonable notice where practicable.

Changes

We may update these terms as the service evolves. Material changes will be emailed to signed-up users; continued use after notice means acceptance of the new terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes that can’t be resolved by email are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
